GOODBYE ALL-NIGHTIES
Well, at least until summer school starts! Is it just me or did this school year pass by SUPER fast? Yay! I can’t wait to sleep. I’m seriously in major sleep debt. I can’t wait to stay up for something else other than to do school work. Just yay!
This is kind of off topic but now that people mentioned it to me. A lot of times when I sound really sarcastic haha and what I just wrote, all my “yays” are so sarcastic haha! But I really am excited!!
Anyways, studied hard…..now gotta play harderrr!!! Have an awesome summer! tata!
Project 6: Digital Video
So I’m going to explain my project again because during the crit I was really sick and tired and I had no idea what I was talking about. I mentioned that I made this for myself, I really didn’t. That was more or less BS that just came out of my mouth. I really don’t what happened there or what I was thinking.
My intension was to make a commercial that dealt with time. I looked at all objects that could be a representation of time and one of them was a cigarette. The burning of a cigarette is a representation of time passing by and I connected that with a smoker’s life, and how smoking affects one’s life.
The purpose of this commercial wasn’t really one to persuade smokers to quit, but like most anti smoking advertisements and commercials, it is to put the awareness out there.
Kids Peeing In Public
Oh my goodness. I was on my way to the school today to work on a project and I seriously saw so many kids just peeing everywhere by the waterslide area. It is so gross. This isn’t my first time seeing this happen on Granville Island. They’re like dogs, they just pee and poop wherever they like. UH, disgusting.

Brady Marks: I Am Listening
Surrey Art Gallery: Open Sound
At the Surrey Art Gallery, a new program called Open Sound was developed. This program promotes the presentation and production of audio work of arts as part of the contemporary art practice. The art forms within this program are interactive. One of the many projects is done by Brady Marks, I Am Listening.
This audio piece is a listening machine that is responsive and interactive. There are strands hung from the gallery’s ceiling, each attached with a microphone and eight white LED lights (a light-emitting diode). As the microphone is aroused by some sort of sound, the LED light activates upwards. The more sounds and louder the sounds made, the lights activates in a faster motion. When the sound causes the LED light at the top to light up, it cycles itself back to the bottom as more sound is made. This audio circuit installation works well with the sounds made in the lobby. “I am listening. Are you? Unlike our eyes our ears have no lids. We are always listening. Even when we are asleep we are listening. I am listening is a listening machine. It practices synesthesia, misinterpreting sound into light, but the lights move as sound moves: a wave of still lights. Is I am listening a good listener? What do you hear? What does it?” This listening machine reacts to any noise made surrounding it. I Am Listening portrays how ears respond.
Sound Art often take on hybrid forms. Most of this art is embraced by electronics, acoustics, music, sound from the environment, exploring the human body, and other audio or visual media. The digital media artist, Brady Marks is interested in the relationship between the media and the body. I was intrigued by the interactive parts of this installation. Technology has allowed artist to create works that communicate in a different way. I was really intrigued by how as artists we are able to represent something physical, such as sense in a visual form.
My Heritage
All my friends posted this Celebrity Look-aLikes thing on Facebook awhile back.
Wanted to save myself the embarrassment and not try this whole face recognition thing in case I end up looking like some celebrity in the other gender ( which happened to a few people), but curiosity finally won over.
I actually went a did a few pictures to see if this actually works..and NO, it doesn’t. Because results show that I look like Ayumi Hamasaki most. Weird? Yes. I honestly don’t think I have ginormous eyes like hers. I hate the fact that I ended up looking like her because she isn’t even real. I don’t even know how many surgery shes gone through to make herself look like that. I’m not going to believe that I look like some kinda of plastic doll. So no, I don’t believe this whole face recognition thing doesn’t work.
S.A.D – Seasonal Affective Disorder
I am temporarily back from hiatus. Its been awhile since I’ve actually blogged something thats not related to class.
S.A.D
This weekend was disgusting. Hail, snow, and rain. I think a lot of people around me, including myself still suffers from SAD, the winter blues…either that, or we’re all just super emo.
No one knows for sure what causes SAD but researchers believe it may have to do with;
-Fewer daylight hours may reduce important mood altering chemicals in the brain;
-Hormonal disruption (cortisol, thyroid)
-Reduced retinal sensitivity to light,
-Low winter temperatures may trigger the body to rest and disrupt circadian rhythms;
-Barometric pressure and precipitant levels,
-Psychological mechanisms and personality traits may all be contributing factors.Here are the symptoms. i have everyone of them:
-Low mood, reduced interest in normally pleasurable activities, decreased concentration (I seriously don’t feel like doing anything but be a couch potato.)
-Oversleeping-often an increase of 4 hours or more each day.(I have a habit of taking “naps” for 6 hours.)
-Low energy and fatigue
-Intense craving for carbohydrates
-Weight gain and carbohydrate/sweets craving(Yes, definitely gained weight. )
-Withdrawal from social contacts
-Depression.Some treatments include light therapy or anti-depressants.
Project 5 -Mobility Game
This is a presentation of my group’s mobility game.

Project 4-Google Map
My google map was quite personal, so I have decided not to post it. But this is pretty much what it was about:
Project 3 – Urban Intervention II
My first idea for this project didn’t work out so here is my second idea.
There is not one time that I attend the lecture hall without seeing someone asleep. I have at least fallen asleep once. I have even seen teachers fall asleep. It is sometimes more of a “sleeping hall” than a lecture hall. Sleepers of this hall often feel guilty for falling asleep during someone’s lecture. I often seek for reasons to make myself feel better about falling asleep and this is when I thought of this vinyl installation. “Studies show that sleeping improves life expectancy.”

Installation:

Heartbreak Hotel
The heart is seriously at a battleground.
When it comes to relationships, What do you follow? Your head or heart? Or both?
Sometimes in our relentless efforts to find the person we love we fail to recognize and appreciate the people who love us. We miss out on so many beautiful things simply because we allow ourselves to be enslaved by our own selfish concerns. Go for the man of deeds and not for the man of words, for you will find rewarding happiness not with the man you love, but the man who loves you more. The best lovers are those capable of loving from a distance far enough to allow the person to grow, but never too far to feel the love deep within your being. To let go of someone doesn’t mean you have to stop loving. It only means that you allow that person to find their own happiness without expecting them to come back. Letting go is not just setting the other person free, but it is also setting yourself free from all the bitterness, hatred and anger that you keep in your heart. Do not let the bitterness rare away your strength and weaken your faith, and never allow pain to dishearten you but rather let yourself grow with wisdom in bearing it.You may find peace in just loving someone from a distance not expecting something in return. But be careful for this can sustain life but can never give enough room for us to grow. We can all survive with just beautiful memories of the past but real peace and happiness come only with open acceptance of what reality is today. There comes a time in our lives when we change upon someone so nice and beautiful and we just find ourselves getting so intensely attracted to that person. This feeling soon becomes a part of our everyday lives and eventually consumes our thoughts and actions. The sad part of it is when we begin to realize that this person feels nothing more for us than just friendship. We start our desperate attempt to get noticed and be closer, but in the end our efforts are still unrewarded and we end up feeling sorry for ourselves. You don’t really have to forget someone you love. What you need to learn is how to accept the verdict of reality without being bitter or sorry for yourself. Believe me; you would be better off giving that dedication and love to someone more deserving. Don’t let your heart run your life. Be sensible and let your mind speak for itself. Listen not only your feelings but to reason as well. Always remember that if you lose someone today it means that someone better is coming tomorrow. If you lost love that doesn’t mean that you failed in love. Cry if you have to. But make sure that the tears wash away the hurt and bitterness that the past has left with you. Let go of yesterday and love will find its way back to you. And when it does, pray that it may be the love that will stay and last a lifetime. There are two ways to live your life, One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
